https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/167299925/johann-philip-leonard "The research of well known historian Phillip Leonard points to Grace Lutheran Church, Catawba County, North Carolina as the most likely place for the burial of Philip Leonard (1774-1820), son of Valentine Leonard, Jr. (1751-1814). Although his name appears on a memorial stone at Daniel's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lincoln County, North Carolina, it has never been thought that he is buried there. He died some time between 1820 and 1830.

Philip's father, Valentine Leonard, Jr. purchased 200 acres of land in Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1809, and Philip inherited 185 acres of this land in 1815. He sold this land to Jacob Shuford in 1816 and was living in the Grace Lutheran Church area of Catawba County, North Carolina. He also had other land in the area. Not much is known about him after the 1820 Federal Census. He had five sons and three daughters according to the 1820 Federal Census."

I have confirmed that Valentine's parents are Johann Michael Leonhardt, born about 1684, and died 1733 (see below), and his spouse in 1719 Johannetta (surname unknown), born about 1683, died 24 Apr 1724.
I am suggesting that the parentage previously indicated on this page be deleted, or corrected.

Family Search has birth and death dates for Johann Michael Leonhardt as b.1683 d.1733
******************
Valentin Leonhardt (original spelling), one of the original pioneers of Davidson Co, NC. Born 10-13-1718 in Katzenbach Germany to Martin & Anna Barbara Leonhardt, arrived in Philadelphia on the ship "Neptune" on 10/25/1746. Married Elisabeth Wallacher and fathered several children before moving to what is now Davidson Co, NC. He settled on "a large tract of land between Abbott's Creek and one of its tributaries, since called Leonhardt's Creek." Six children were born here. The land was purchased from Lord Granville through an agent. Although a tailor by trade, Valentin became a farmer on a large scale. Although not a young man when the Revolutionary War broke out, he joined, as did all of his sons. Following the Guilford Court-house battle (Nathanael Greene's Regiment), he retired to his farm. Here he was shot by a band of Tories and died 11 days later on Nov 13, 1781. His neighbor, Wooldrich Fritz was also shot and killed on the same night by a band of Tories. They are buried in what was known as Leonhardt's Church Cemetery and is now Pilgrim Reformed Church Cemetery on Old Pilgrim Road.
His will was made 22 Aug 1779 and lists 8 children.
The tall monument was erected 4 July 1896 for the 2 men who lost their lives so cruely after doing so much for their country and their community:
The inscription on the East Side reads: "This monument was erected by citizens A.D. 1896 out of veneration for our brave dead. These men are of those who fought for and gained our liberty. Unveiled with appropriate ceremonies July 4, 1896."
The West Side reads: "The heroes buried in this spot were cruelly assasinated in their own homes by Tories near the close of the Revolutionary War. They were Patriots and bravely fought for American independence.""
