email from herself, Nov 2016: " I just called my cousin Doug who lives in N.C, I live in Ohio. He remembers that Uncle Cornelius came to visit Lela and family in 1939 when Doug was 7 years old. It was a huge deal because the Baker's in N.C. were on the poor side of the social economic ladder since they all worked in the textile mills in N.C. They invited all the N.C. Bakers (and there were lots of them since they all came from N.C. Doug never saw Cornelius again and never really heard too much conversation about Lela family. Doug is now 85 and I'm 67. I do remember my mother (Edna Robinson) talking about her grandmother (Laura) that she lived in Oregon and used to be a "Smith" before she married her husband, and her mother was a "Miller" and she always told me that they were Dutch. I'm talking with Dale Smith (widow of Harvey Baker, Lela brother) in Dublin, Ohio and I was suppose to go down and see her but she fell and broke her hip and had surgery recently and is now in a rehab facility.
