Susanna (I401) [Female] b. ABT 1815 NC - d. AFT 1892

1840 census, Lower Regiment, Lincoln, NC. 20-29y. 1 male under 5y - that would be Henry.

1850 census, Lincoln, NC. By 1850, they were still in what was left of Lincoln Co and had a few more children. Nathan was 44y and Susan was 35y. Their children:

Henry, 11y
William S., 9y
Nancy M., 7y
David, 5y
James, 2y
Isabella, 6m

1860 census, Taylorsville, Alexander, NC, 57y. with wife Susan, 8 children total. By 1860, they were in Taylorsville, Alexander Co, NC. That county is just north of Catawba Co. Nathan was 57y (1803) and Susan was 46y (1813). Their children were:

H.M, 20y <-- Henry
W.S.M, 18y <-- William
N.E., 16y <-- Nancy
J.C.W.M, 11y <-- James
Isabella, 8y
F.N. 6y <-- Fielden N.
R.F. 3y <-- Robert

David was not listed and must have died.

1870 census, Catawba Springs, Lincoln, NC. By 1870, they were back in Lincoln Co, in Catawba Springs Township. Nathan was 61y and Susan was 54y. Henry and William no longer lived at home. The children still at home are:

Nancy, 24y
James, 21y
Isabella, 18y
Fielden, 16y
Robert 13y

Two grandchildren also lived with them. Later information indicates that their family name was Stevenson but I've not been able to find out who the parents were:

Darcus, 6y
Mary, 4y

The family lived next door to the family of Dorcas Sherrill who later married James Baker.

1880 census, Lemley, Mecklenburg, NC. By 1880, Nathan and family had moved to Lemley Township, Mecklenburg Co, NC. Nathan was 75y and Susan (listed as Susanna) was 65y. Living with them were their granddaughter, Darkus E. Stevenson, 16y and their daughter, Isabella and her family. Isabella was 24y and had married James Crenshaw, 26y. They had a daughter Nora, 5y. Note that Mary Stevenson (14y), who was living with them in the 1870 census, is no longer living with them. Next door to them was Robert F. Baker, 22y and his wife Dora, 19y. They didn't have any children at this time (they had 6 children later). This is Felix's younger brother.

1883 marriage record of daughter Nancy to George Fincannon mentions Susan as living in Lincoln County.

1892 listed in the Hill's Chapel books. Found by Jeremy Baker.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/46057877/person/25328751844 shows her name as Susannah Stephenson but there is no source information. Note in the 1880 census, two grandchildren were listed withe the surname Stevenson. Double Note: I am very skeptical of this tree. Susan is shown with one of children we expect (James) but with the WRONG Nathan. The tree shows a Nathan who was born in 1803 and who died in 1872. We already know that our Nathan was alive in 1883.

information sent to David Goings by Madge Philbeck in the 1990's:
"THE GOINS FAMILY IN LINCOLN COUNTY, N. C.
Wiley Goins was married two times in Lincoln County, North Carolina, and both marriage bonds are extant and are published in Marriage Bonds of Old Tryon-Lincoln Counties, North Carolina by Curtis Bynum. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Clippard by bond dated 3 March 1829 with William Roderick, surety, and B. J. Thompson, witness. The second marriage of Wiley Going (Goins) was to Anna Gooldman by a bond dated 26 January 1839 with Daniel Smith, surety, and H. Cansler, Clerk of County Court.

According to the 1850 Lincoln County Census, Mahaly C. and Louisa were children of Wiley Goins and his second wife, Anna Gooldman. When the census was taken, Wiley and his two daughters, age ten and six, were living in the household of Henry Workman, his wife and two children. Wiley was 40 years old, indicating that he was born about 1810.

There is no information available about Wiley Goins' wives; however, no wife appears with him in 1850. His daughter, Louisa, who was born 23 September 1846 and died 3 September 1910, is buried at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lincoln County at Vale, North Carolina. She was never married.

Information about Mahaly C. Goins is not available at this time. "

email from Terry Young to David Goings, 2001: "Lincoln Co Court, April Session 1822 shows: Ordered by court that Wilee Gowen or (Miles...hard to read microfilm)about 17 yrs old be bound to George Lutz to learn Blacksmith trade. Ordered by court that John Gowen about 12 years old be bound to Jacob Carpenter to learn wagonwright trade until lawful age. These seem to be same ages as our John and Wiley Goins. They must be related." David was not convinced.

information sent to David Goings by Madge Philbeck in the 1990's:

She was never married.

email from David Goings, Aug 2011: "I found your website about the Parents of Eliza Mahaly Smith when I was searching for John, Wiley, and Aaron Goins. I am a descendant of John M. Goins b. 1811." David was looking for evidence to support the fact that John was, indeed, a brother of Wiley and Aaron.

email from Terry Young to David Goings, 2001: "Lincoln Co Court, April Session 1822 shows: Ordered by court that Wilee Gowen or (Miles...hard to read microfilm)about 17 yrs old be bound to George Lutz to learn Blacksmith trade. Ordered by court that John Gowen about 12 years old be bound to Jacob Carpenter to learn wagonwright trade until lawful age. These seem to be same ages as our John and Wiley Goins. They must be related." David was not convinced.

email from David Goins, Sep 2011: "I have included some additional tree summaries that I had seen on an Ancestry search results page for John M Goins that contain Columbus Goins and Mary Lucinda Vick. Maybe one of them will offer a clue as to where this information came from or maybe your head will just be spinning again if all these trees just take you in circles. There seems to be a considerable amount of message board information and discussion about the SC couple of circa 1846 but I was never able to find anything about the NC couple outside of these tree references. I would expect to see some sort of census or book reference or anecdotal family information about such a family connection from the late 1790's and early 1800's and yet so far there seeems to be nothing. This furthers my suspicion that it was an error in one tree that has been copied."

Leonard Research by Philip Leonard, of Wash, DC - pp 1, 80-90, 176: "Margaret ("Peggy") Saypaugh/Seaboch was born on December 12, 1801, and died on October 3, 1871. She is buried at Daniels Church in the row with Franklin Leonard. Her parents were evidently Jacob Seaboch and his wife Margaret. Great Uncle Gaston Leonard also said that she was born and reared in the old house that stands back from the road--in a very diplapidated condition in 1977--above the abandoned Beam's Cotton Gin and below the house of Marsh Goins."
