VIOLET EASTER (ABBOTT) PETERSON
April 1, 1923 ~ July 18, 2009

Violet Easter (Abbott) Peterson went home on July 18, 2009, her Mother's 107th birthday, at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 17 days. She was born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923, the youngest daughter of Everett William Abbott and Mary Adella Horn. She was a long time resident of the Camas-Washougal, WA area.
As a child, Violet sang with her mother, during her teen years in their church and mission churches, outlying churches, on the radio, at funerals and many senior homes. She worked in the shipyards as a welder during World War II. She also worked in numerous restaurants between Camas and California.
Violet married Raymond Everett Peterson on June 18, 1946, that union lasting 52 years. After marrying she devoted her life to her family and her church. She used the 9-passenger van to pick up children from Sunday school.
Violet had a wonderful love for her family and for Christ.
She always wanted to live her life as an example for her family.
Violet is survived by her sister, Lillian Salvey of Steilacoom, WA; sons, Donald Dean (Debbie) Peterson of Edmond, OK, William Everett Peterson of Camas, WA; step-daughter, Patricia Rae (Don) Fray of La Pine, OR; and daughter, Lori Beth Peterson (Joseph Lindquist) of Vancouver, WA. Violet was fortunate enough to have 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children. Her first great-great- grandson will be born in August 2009. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, 1919-1999; daughters, Sherri Lynn Peterson, 1954-1954, Nancy Mardell (Peterson) Parrack, 1955-2007; son, Randy Ray Peterson, 1956-2000; brother, Everett Rodney Abbott, 1925-1972; and sister, Beth Lucena (Abbott) Fernandez, 1919-2003.
A celebration of her Christian life will be held at Camas Nazarene Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2009. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Camas Cemetery, where many of her relatives will surround her.

Marriages made in heaven are not easily broken�not even in death. "Many elderly widowers and widows often sense the presence of a deceased spouse," says Linda Cherek, who presents conferences nationwide on grieving. "Widowers often say they wake up at night to see their loved one in a white mist, or widows awaken to feel their husband's hand on their face, telling them they're O.K., that everything is going to be all right."

Many elderly are reluctant to talk about these experiences because they fear others may think they're "losing it." But not Lillian V. Salvey, 88, of Steilacoom, Washington.

"People scoff and just call them dreams, but they're more than that," the great-grandmother insists. "They are so real that it feels like Norm is standing by my bed. He always seems so happy, and I'm sure he is. He was ready to go, and he did love the Lord with all his heart."

When Lillian's first husband, Ernie, was killed in North Africa during World War II, he appeared that night to Lillian in a vision. "People kept telling me that it was a dream, even though I had a brick in my heart," she says. A telegram arrived five days later, informing Lillian of Ernie's death.
