Obituary - FRAZZINI, VINCENT "YOUNGER" - 6/21/1985 (copy of obit ordered).

Date: November 3, 1996
Publication: Erie Times-News (PA)
THE syndicated television show `Hard Copy` will be taking a look at a real band that got its start in Erie garages before hitting the big time.
On Monday, `Hard Copy` will be flying Paul Yoculan, a former member of the Younger Brothers, back to Erie from Orlando, Fla., along with Ray Tubbs, former manager of the group. The third original member of the Younger Brothers, Vinny Frazzini, died in 1985.
The group began as the Fabulous...

Erie Times-News - Nov 3, 1996
Erie Times-News : GARAGE BANDS Erie Times-News (PA) Erie .... Cope and the late Vinny Frazzini, the Fabulous Epics, later known as the Younger Brothers, ... " It may sound naive," said Ray Tubbs, 60, of Holiday, Fla., former manager of the ...

email from grandnephew, Tony White, Feb 2013: "Going back to the Frazzini side of things, the children of Alf and Augusta are my grandmother and great aunts/uncles, one of which was a semi-celebrity of his day. Vinny Frazzini was a member of a very popular local band that briefly hit it big in NYC. The movie "That Thing You Do" is very loosely based on their story. The real story is actually much more interesting than the movie in my undoubtedly biased opinion... it would have been nice to see Tom Hanks credit our family and tell the real story, but instead he skirted around all that by changing it just enough so that it doesn't mirror the original.

They were a band that in Erie called themselves the Fabulous Epics, and later changed their name to the Younger Brothers at the suggestion of Warner Brothers, who signed them while they were playing at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC in the early 60's.

There's a backstory to how the band formed, and the Beatles made an appearance at one of their shows at the Peppermint Lounge, after which the two bands got to know each other. There's actually a video on YouTube showing the two bands hanging out after the Epics' (they hadn't changed their name yet) show."

From an eBay auction by vacuum_tube_rescue, Item location, Kirkland, AZ, Nov 2019: "Vincent Frazzini Original Abstract Painting 1970s Lead Singer of Fabulous Epics - Artist: Vincent Frazzini DOB 10/20/1941 – DD 6/20/1985 at age 43 AKA: Vinny Frazzini

Vincent was the lead singer of the Fabulous Epics and performed at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC. The Beatles went to see the Fabulous Epics right after appearing on the Ed Sullivan show Feburary 9th, 1964 (pic 23), where Vinny and the rest of the Epics wore fake noises and glasses and did a spoof of the Beatles. There are lengthy videos of the Beatles and Vinny goofing around during this meeting as well.

The movie “That Thing You Do” from 1996 was based on the Fabulous Epics story and Vinny would have been Jimmy in the movie. Hard Copy did a story in 1997 about how Tom Hanks Mysteriously came up with the idea for the movie which mirrored real life even using the actual home town of the band and events that actually transpired.

Vinny attended art school in Greenwich Village in NYC after graduating High School. As an artist Vinny was well accomplished in his 20s. Unfortunately during an exhibit in downtown Phoenix, Arizona sometime in the 60s, all of his work was stolen and never recovered.

I went to several of Vinny’s art exhibits in Erie, PA and was fortunate enough to know Vinny personally, and acquired several of his works of art. I was able to watch him work as an artist and performer (as Vinny Younger lead singer for the Younger Brothers) in Erie, Pa and Vinny answered all the questions I ever posed concerning his art and life. I lived with Vinny in 1971-1973, and visited him often after moving. All of Vinny’s paintings were in the abstract and he sold his art at exhibits and by commission while living in Erie.

This fantastic abstract painting was commissioned by Charles G. Dunn in the 70s. Dunn took the painting off the original wood framing and used the same tacks and some of the original tack holes holding it to the framing, and tacked it directly to the frame as you see in the pics. Dunn move to Arizona in the late 70s or early 80s, and this painting remained in his possession until his death in 1995. The painting then went to his daughter who traded this painting for another of Vinny’s paintings in my possession that was created in 1961.

The size of the painting, not including the frame, and where the painting was folded over the wood framing is approximately 30” x 22”. In the current frame it is approximately 34 ½” x 28”.

I have never seen Vinny’s paintings come up for sale since the exhibits I attended in Erie, PA in the 70s. I can say without equivocation that this particular painting is the best I have seen of his work as an abstract artist. The painting is signed, no date, and if there was a title it is unknown.

I know all this because Vinny is my Uncle; younger brother of my father. Charles G. Dunn is my grandfather on my mother’s side. I tried to buy the painting from my grandfather in the 80s who would not sell for less than $1,000.000.00. Charles Dunn called the painting a “Frazzini”. I know I am asking a lot and not just because Vinny was my uncle, but because this is a true abstract masterpiece, by an extraordinary artist, that needs more attention than my living room."

Onorato Mausoleum in Erie PA Cemetary by the Penninsula on West 8th Street
John Frazzini
Here is a complete tour, inside and out, of the Onorato mausoleum in Erie PA that I tried to clean and do some maintenance while i was in Erie for a very short time several years ago. The Onorato mausoleum in Erie, PA on West 8th st (possibly 6th st but I think 6th goes into 8th street), by the Peninsula, where my Grandma Julia rests and was in need of repair or the Cemetery said they were going to just cover it over with a pile of dirt. I sure hope this has not happened. I wish I was there so I could fix the roof and shore up the building for our family. Please Help.

1907 SEaM digital marriage record #6. 23y (b 1884), f: Donato, m: Arcangela Pantalone. Born in SEaM.

1909 16 Apr EI arrival, 23y, on the Floride and referenced in 1914 EI Arrival. Going to brother, Francesco, at 810 Webster Ave, Pittsburgh, PA. Previously in the US from 1900-04.

1910 returned to Italy.

1914 20 Jul, EI Arrival, 30y, Last Residence McKees Rocks, USA. Wife Albacelesta D'Antini in SEaM. Going to cousin Angelino Gargaro in McKees Rocks. Previously in the US (McKees Rocks) 1909-10.

1955 PA DC, 71y. 19 mar 1884, reported by Daniel C. Dantini, McKees Rocks.

2019 May email from Lori D'Antini Garrison: "Thank you for this new information!
Gloria also mentioned another sibling, Marriett? along with Francesco, Pietro, Rafaelle, and her mother. I am not sure if she passed away young. I will ask her when I call her later this week. I saw in your history of Sant'Eufemia the long line of Pantelone. We used to hear my grandfather talk about a strong man in our family and he used to say we were "Strong like Pantelone!" when we helped him on the farm.

My husband does not have any stories about his family settling here (Daniel Christopher Garrison of New Jersey and Boston), but he visited Sant'Eufemia on our honeymoon and could not believe how wonderful our family was to him! They came to Rome and picked us up and we stayed in a little hotel. We have lots of movie footage of the town that we filmed. I will have to dig it up and take a look. We were treated like royalty! Concetta and Lena were amazing cooks. We ate the best meals of our lives and really loved being there! I am still trying to get Gloria to remember how we are related to Angelo and Concetta (don't know the last name) and their daughter Lena married Ambramo Morizio and have one son, Angelo. Lena lives in Tommasso and young Angelo lives in Pescara.

My Aunt Donna remembers being told that Angelo got on skis when the Germans invaded and skied down the mountain to warn the other towns. She said the Germans came from the top of the mountain in a suprise attack. They lined up all of the men in Sant'Eufemia and shot them in front of the Church. She also remembers my grandmother, Betty Dantini, wanting to send money to repair the windows of the church after the war.

Gloria mentioned that she moved from Scranton to McKees Rocks in 1942 when her father had financial troubles. I think he owned a coal mine that no longer produced coal maybe? She said her mother asked my grandfather to help them settle in McKees Rocks. When she arrived, she said her uncle Ralph bought bunches of fancy cookies for them and Aunt Elizabeth took her to buy a beautiful outfit to wear. Gloria said she was so happy and would never forget how kind they were to her. Everyone stayed in a tiny apartment above a pharmacy in McKees Rocks and maybe it was close to where my grandpap had his medical practice.

I am typing the stories as Gloria talks over the phone. I homeschool my boys (Brendan is 15 and Devin is 13) and we are going to do a family history project for our assignment in the fall. We are all so excited to hear these stories and learn about our history! Interestingly, I also married a Daniel and we spelled our first born, Brendan, with the dan in the name to honor the family legacy of "Dan".

Thank you for all of your help!"

email from Tom Gargaro, Feb 2021: "My Grandfather Angelo’s sister Albaceleste (born in 1889)married a Raffaelle J Dantini (originally D’antini) born in 1884 in St. Eufemia, They were married in St. Eufemia. Raffaelle arrived in the states in 1914. Albaceleste and their son came in 1920. It appears to us that Franesco was Raffaelle’s brother.Raffaelle’s parents names were Donato and Arcangela Pantalone. We’re not sure how or if this Francesco was in Colorado."
