He was born in Farmington, W.Va., on Nov. 16, 1919, a son of the late Rocco and Dora Pantalone, brother of the late Victor Pantalone and the late Mary DiRienzo.

He is survived by sisters, Margaret Pantalone, Fairmont, W.Va., and Anna Coleman, Palm Coast, Fla.; brothers, Col. Julius Pantalone, Salisbury, Md., and Eugene Pantalone, Clarksburg, Md., and several nieces and nephews.

From 1957 until his retirement in 1994 he was a surgeon in Aliquippa Hospital. He was the surgeon for Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. and the LTV Corp. until their closure in 1985. Dr. Pantalone was a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, a member of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the United States Section of the International College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Beaver County Medical Society. Dr. Pantalone received a B.S. degree from the University of West Virginia in 1942, a B.S. degree from West Virginia School of Medicine in 1944, and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va., in 1946. He served an internship in St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa., from April 1946 through July 1947. From July 1947 through June 1949, he was a flight surgeon and Captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps serving in the South Pacific Military Air Force Transportation. From 1950 to 1951, he served a surgical residency in St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. From July 1951 through February 1953, he served a surgical residency at the University of Washington, Seattle, Wash., under the late Henry J. Harkins, M.D.

Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonshire Street, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15213, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church, Pittsburgh.

He graduated from Farmington High School in 1936 and attended Fairmont State college for two years, 1936 and 1938. Dr. Pantalone received a B.S. degree from the University of West Virginia in 1942, a B.S. degree from West Virginia School of Medicine in 1944 and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, in 1946. He served an internship in St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh, from April 1946 through July 1947. From 1947 through June 1949, he was a flight surgeon and Captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps serving in the South Pacific Military Air Force Transportation. From 1950 to 1951, he served a surgical residency in St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. From July 1951 through February 1953, he served a surgical residency at the University of Washington, Seattle, under the late Henry J. Harkins, M.D.

In 1928 the late well known doctor and surgeon, Dr. Etley Smith of Cook Hospital, Fairmont, was his mentor and inspired him to become a doctor. He was adamant in becoming a super doctor as Dr. Smith. The late Dr. J.D. Rominio, well known doctor of Fairmont, was also his mentor.

Dr. Pantalone was a great philanthropist. He was highly respected as a doctor and surgeon by family, friends and patients.

John A. Freyvogel Sons, Inc.; 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonsire St., Pittsburgh, was in charge of funeral arrangements. A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church, Pittsburgh. Margaret, his sister, and Dr. Janet Salvati, cousin, attended the funeral.

Mary Ward Pantalone passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013 at age 90.

Beloved wife of the late Albert Pantalone, M.D., she was the dear mother of Richard A. Pantalone, M.D. and Jeanne M. Pantalone, and devoted grandmother of Nathaniel, Emily and Julia Pantalone.

She was born in Pittsburgh on July 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Sarah and William Ward.

Mrs. Pantalone was the sister of Bernice Ward and John Ward, M.D., both of Mt. Lebanon, and the late William Ward, Jr. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street (www.freyvogelfuneralhome.com), on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral Saturday, Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul Cathedral at 10 a.m.

Convalescent Home.

She was born in Erie Nov. 30, 1910, daughter of the late Dominic
and Jennie Triata Frazzini.

She had been a clerk at Trask, Prescott and Richardson, and at the
Boston Store.

She was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church.
