Lucy Colaizzi Holmes
July 11, 2012 Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Lucy Colaizzi Holmes, of Hughesville, Pa., passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012. She was born Jan. 7, 1917, in Koppel, Pa., the daughter of Elisha and Blandina (Musilli) Colaizzi. Lucy was the last of nine children born to Elisha and Blandina, who emigrated from the Campobasso Providence of Italy at the turn of the century and settled in Western Pennsylvania.

She graduated in 1935 from Ellwood City High School where she was valedictorian and settled in the Pittsburgh area. On July 24, 1951, she married Irvin S. Holmes of Wampum, Pa. She was employed by Babcock and Wilcox Steel Company for 12 years until the passing of her father-in-law, Irvin V. Holmes. He had retired as school superintendant of the Wampum Area School District and had relocated to his hometown of Hughesville. Lucy and her husband moved to Hughesville in 1960 to help in the care of her mother-in-law.

She worked in the office of the former Anchor-Darling Valve Company in Williamsport for 10 years until the plant downsized in 1974. She then went to work for GTE Sylvania in Montoursville, Pa., in the flashbulb division until she retired with eleven years of service in 1985.

Lucy enjoyed many activities in life including flowers and gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles, reading and good meals spent with her family. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy, Pa., for over 47 years. She enjoyed her independence and resided on her own.

Surviving are a son, Richard I. Holmes of Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Susan J. (Ron) Smith of Hughesville, Pa.; and a son, Daniel E. (Sherry) Holmes of Hughesville, Pa. Lucy has six grandchildren, Ryan (Rhyan) Smith of Brookhaven, Pa., and Tara Smith, Hali Hambridge, Rachael Sossamon, Danielle and Victoria Holmes, all of Hughesville, Pa. One great-grandson, Adam Smith, was fortunate to have known his great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband and eight brothers and sisters, Robert, Dr. Alfred, James and John Colaizzi and sisters, Clara Colonna, Sarah Ciarimboli, Elvira Paparelli and Lena Evaldi.

The funeral service will be held Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy, Pa., with the Reverend Glenn McCreary officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hughesville, Pa. Friends and relatives may call Thursday, July 12, 2012, between 6 and 8 p.m. at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home in Hughesville, Pa., or at the Church of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hughesville Area Public Library in her honor. Expressions of condolence and memories of her life may be shared with her family at DanielE.Holmes@Yahoo.com.

VIncenzo "James" Labate (I12936) [Male] b. 23 Nov 1862 San Pietro Avellana, Campobasso, Italy
Immigration: : 11 Apr 1881
1862 SPA transcribed birth records, not found. There is a Francesco (?) Labate born on 29 Nov 1862 to Giacomo and Stella Settefrati. It may be that the transcription is wrong and that Francesco was really Vincenzo, need to look at the original record.

1919 Declaration of Intention, Denver, CO, Born SPA 23 Nov 1862. 3432 Mariposa St, wife Sabettra born SPA. Imm: 11 Apr 1881 on the Casimir (probably the Cachemire). Search on ancestry.com shows manifests for Cachemire starting in 1886 and then going after 1892 into Ellis Island era. None around 11 Apr and none as early as 1881.

Cachemire arrival on 29 May 1893 has a lot of people from SPA. Can't find any Labate.

James is often used in English for Vincenzo.

Mary Frazzini - A Big Heart Gets Her Involved
By PAMELA GALLOWAY

She's spontaneous firm in her beliefs decisive and and after four terms of service in Nevada's Assembly she was defeated but she simply turned another direction and began a different career as director of the Western Nevada Senior Citizen's Center Where there's a cause Mary Cameron Frazzini is not far away And one of the causes that hits closest to home is that of Nevada Indians She can lay claim through her mother to the ancient bloodlines of the Shoshone and Piaute You are living on stolen Mary Frazzini will tell you in a matter-of-fact tone I have intense feelings about the Indians My mother told me stories her grandmother told her about the Indians being driven into Owens Lake That hardened me as did the book Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee White men always feel they know what the Indian needs old former Nevada assemblywoman said The Bureau of Indian Affairs operates that way It is probably the only federal bureau created for one race of people but for a long time the Indians just went along with what white men thought was best for Mrs Frazzini said Mrs Frazzini was raised in Silver Peak an old mining town located about 60 miles southwest of Tonopah Public Life It was the site of her initiation into public life When I turned 21 I registered to vote and filed for school board for Clayton Valley School I really wasn't a joiner before that My maternal grandfather was on the school board so he probably had some she said Mary Cameron served two terms on the school board before she married Carson Frazzini in Silver Peak and moved to Reno She is spontaneous conceding that some people like what she does and some don't She is animated and direct when she talks about herself Her answers to questions about herself and her beliefs come quickly But Mrs Frazzini likes to talk about the cesses of those around her rather than her own accomplishments She readily mentions that she ran the concession stand at Idlewild Park for many summers but not that she has been involved with the Republican Women's Club of Reno Girl Scouts PTA Reno Business and Professional Women's Club the NAACP the Salvation Army Washoe Association for Retarded Children Toastmistress Cub Scouts the Nevada Federations of Republican Women the School Board Health Advisory Council or a local garden club to name a few She was a legislator in the assembly from 1964 to 1973 and has received such awards as Woman of the Year one of three Outstanding Republican Women in the U.S and has been listed in Who's Who of American Who's Who in American and Who's Who in the West She works with the Council and has been director of the Senior Citizen Center since July 1973 But she is modest about her history of contributions I wasn't really a joiner My son Center Wife mother community leader politician grandmother con- cerned citizen her focal point now is the Western Nevada Senior Citizens Center She dismisses her many accomplishments with a laugh The source of her energy is her concern for people The number of people who need a helping she says with astonishment. Maybe a woman in politics has to get tough but my way was to be thoughtful objective and feminine I held my own when I had to former assemblywoman Mary Frazzini says I am concerned about people The negative side of the coin means turn it around and look at the positive said Mary Frazzini director of the Senior Citizen Center We were endowed with a brain and a heart and we're supposed to use them entered school and I got involved in PTA It just burst I really saw how many people need a helping hand she said seriously Humane Concern Her humane concerns seem as endless as the energy she finds to involve herself with persons from all walks of life But she has a simple explanation for her involvement I met a blind person and went to a meeting It was the same with getting involved with retarded children We were given a brain and a heart and we are supposed to use she said A good phrase for Mary's attitude is Hope springs one of her assistants said The negative side means turn the coin around and look at the positive side I see a lot of good things like people who make the best of a bad problem like not having any Mrs Frazzini said In 1972 she was defeated by Democrat Albert Wittenberg for the district which covers most of Reno defeated by Democrat Albert tenberg for the district which covers most of Northwest Reno Some have said her liberal stand on abortion led to her defeat but she doesn't think so I was ambivalent My mother had died and my husband had had a heart attack six months earlier I was of not working but I knocked on every door in the district The president of the Washoe County Teacher's Association worked against me He said I was against teachers which wasn't true but there were a lot of teachers in my she said She leaned back in her chair lightly folding and unfolding her hands reflecting on her defeat and being in politics When women get into politics maybe they have to get tough but my way was to be thoughtful objective and feminine But I always held my own when I had she said Her mood shifted She recalled an incident which occurred during the last legislative session She banged the palm of her hand down on her desk as she described how angry she was when the Equal Rights Amendment was about to be defeated Here was this woman crying in front of the legislators because she didn't want to be she said ERA Episode As she recounted the ERA episode an editorial published by Independent American Party members entitled COMMUNITY Susan Schaff Editor Why Oppose lay in front of her on her desk This makes me so And you can put that in your article She pointed out a part of the editorial she found offensive Let's face it A few women with personal problems who do not like being women and want to be treated like men may enjoy life more if the is adopted the editorial said Senior Citizens Her current involvement with senior citizens occurred by accident The only senior citizen I had known was my she I was manning a cake booth at a Fourth of July picnic A friend of mine applied to be director of the Senior Citizen Center but didn't get the job because she couldn't drive She told me about this and went to a public phone and arranged for me to be interviewed the next day She didn't tell me about it until she was getting out of my car later that day I went to the interview and got the she explained A year has passed and she is very involved with the center She talks of the needs of older people com- passionately People love antique dishes and furniture but not people Everything was so youth oriented but now people are changing their attitudes and beginning to notice she said About 100 senior citizens visit the center and while it does offer a place for people to go Mrs Frazzini would like to see it become a multi- service center This should be a place with enough room to provide meals health vices and educational and social things Now many of them just play cards and she stated A lot of senior citizens are in need emotionally socially and monetarily We need to find these people in the community There is a need for younger people to help us find older people who have needs One of Mrs main con- cerns is the discontinuation of the food program which was held on Sundays at the center Money Ran Out The state gave us for last year so we decided to feed people here Then the money ran out and the state won't give anymore I am determined to get the Sunday meals back We are having a Christmas bazaar the first two weeks of December to raise money for she said Determined is what she is Although Mrs Frazzini was quoted as saying that she would not retire from political life after her defeat in 1972 she did not run for office this year and she seems to be content to be director of the Senior Citizen Center For now anyway.
