Info from Jack DeJovin, Dec 2007: "I have already shared some of my Dad's life story. You may find it interesting that at the time of the 1924 passport, my Dad was in Youngstown where he was being raised by Giacomo and Marie (D'Amico) DiVecchio. They had done so since his birth in 1922 when Annunziatta died. The 1924 trip was combined purpose of Amabile to visit his parents and to find a new wife. Domenica was a childhood friend of Nunziata and Marie D'Amico. When Amabile returned with Domenica, they reclaimed Dad to be rejoined to the family and with half brother and sister Angelo, Annie, and eventually Nicky and Willy. In May 1933, upon the death of Amabile, the family was engineered by Nick Mancini. Dad was taken back to Youngstown. Angelo at 18 was given a job on the railroad where Amabile had been employed and married Elvira DiPietrantonio also from Sant'Eufemia, and Domenica was left with Annie, Nicky and Willy to raise. In many ways he was helping, but the effects of Amabile's early death and the family structure that resulted are still felt by many of us today."

Info from Rayna Valentine after finding letters saved by Mary Colaianni Lacy, Jul 2007: "Then I found a letter from my Grandmother's aunt Liberata Gatti Colaianni who lived in Patterson, N. J. with a photo enclosed taken when Bicetta was visiting and, wonder of wonders, a list of the people in the photo, as well as school photos of 2 of Liberata's grandkids inscribed on the back by Liberata as being the 4th child of Liberata's son Luigi, and one of Bernard, the 3rd child of Luigi who according to Mary's note had 6 kids . . My Aunt Mary was quite a collector, as we've discovered. Had we only known what she was doing, we could have asked questions and taken part ourselves. She wrote an English translation of the letter and added her own little notes (like the fact that the pictured wife of Amico Gatti was Luigina di Acapito (possibly Accapito; can't quite read it) and that Amico was the" son of our Uncle Sabatino" Gatti-presumably a brother of GGM Maria and therefore her great-uncle. From the photo and letter it appear that Liberata had a son Luigi and a son Joe who never married, and a daughter Maria who had no children. Don't know if Liberata had any other children and I'm still looking to see who her husband was. I also need to figure out who "Bettuccia, daughter of Emidio our cousin" is supposed to be."

Posting on SPA group by Rayna Valentine, Apr 2012: "But, neither Libbie nor I know what to call the relationship between my grandmother Dorantina, as Maria Gatti's daughter, to Liberata, my great-uncle's daughter, let alone the term for my relationship to Libbie and her brother
Louis. No wonder my family in Italy just refers to people as cugini, nipoti(e) and zia(o)!"

Posting on SPA group by Wilberta diVencenzo, Apr 2012: "Libbie is your second cousin - technically, 'second cousin, once removed' - because she is second cousin to your Mother and you were born one generation later.  Louis was your 'first cousin, twice removed' because he was a first cousin to your Grandmother and you were born two generations later.
It is confusing, but is easier if you look at it this way:
-- Liberata Gatti-----sisters-----Maria Gatti
-- Louis Colianni-----1st cousins-----Dorantina Rossi
-- Libbie Colaianni-----2nd cousins-----Viola Colaianni "

Bicetta Gatti (I1720) [Female]
Info from Mary Colaianni Lacy, Pocatello, ID via Ellie Ferrero
Info from Rayna Valentine, May 2005: " I discovered that Grandma's cousin Bicetta Gatti has a daughter Egina who married Luigi Colaizzi who may still live in San Pietro (or possibly Campobasso), and her daughter Mariella works in the Isernia archives. Mariella speaks English, and I'm hoping to discover her address in the batches of cards I'm sifting through. Bicetta had a large family, several of whom are (were) Colaianni's in Patterson, NJ in the 1930's."
Notes from Mary Lacy, via Rayna Valentine: "I met her in Italy died 1980"
Info from Rayna Valentine after looking through Mary Colaianni Lacy's saved letters, Jul 2007: "Just opened the last of Aunt Mary's boxes and found dozens of letters, including one from Mariella Colaizzi, the daughter of Egina Gatti, who was the daughter of Bicetta Gatti. Egina married Luigi Colaizzi and they still live in San Pietro. I also found a reference to a brother of Mariella named Ferdinando in that letter; I suppose he was named after Egina's grandfather Ferdinando Gatti. Mariella then says that Aunt Mary is correct that Bicetta's borther Marino died in Pennsylvania, but his 3 daughters were living in New Jersey (letter written 1980)."

Film 1448675 Nati 1882 #19 of husband, Amico Fortunato Frazzino
email from Janine 'Nini' Frazzini, Jan 2009: "My great-grandmother was Ersilia Gatti. She married Amico Frazzini and they had 2 sons, Adolfo and Mario. My grandfather was Adolfo (Adolph). Ersilia came to the US from SPA twice, once in about 1909 and then again in 1956. Amico went back and forth several times before he stayed for good in 1920. He went to Perino Gatti's in Youngstown, OH and settled there. That is where I am from.

The story that I was always told about my great-grandmother was that she had 2 daughters that became ill while here in the US and she was told that they would be better if she took them back to Italy. America was making them sick. So she went back to Italy with them and they subsequently died. I have tried to find out any information about them but all my grandfather could remember was that they had red hair.

My great-grandmother never wanted to come back to America because of that, according to my grandpa. She came when my dad was in high school (my dad was born in 1941), a few months before my great-grandfather died. She stayed in the US for a few months and then went back. She passed away in SPA at about the age of 90. My grandpa wanted to live to be as old as her, but he missed it by a couple of years."

Wow all this information you have is great. I can make you add something you miss. My great-grandmother was Adalgisa Gatti. She not only had two daughters, but also two sons. It's a very intrigued story, but I can't tell you because it's very long. However, Adalgisa had an relationship with Antonio Di Giacomo and Luciano Ricci (7 October 1924) and Gaetano Ricci (1925) were born. By the laws of the time they took the surname of Adalgisa's husband (Federico Ricci) and not of the natural father. If you want to add more I can tell you both the bloodlines of the two brothers. Luciano Ricci was my grandfather."

1897 SPA digital birth record, 27 Apr. Corinda Adalgisa Gatti. f: Gaetano 42y, m: Cristina diLorenzo. There is a notation which I cannot read. I am not sure of the month as the record reads "del di ventisei del volgente mesa" - 27th of "volgente" month, maybe April. Internet search says that in this context, the word means "current" - the current month.
