2003 Jul email from Jerri Frazzini Bottomly talking about Pat Lauterbach: "Her name is Pat Lauterbach. Her connection to the Frazzinis was that her grandfather's oldest brother was close friends with the Frazzinis, worked for them when he first came to the U.S. and married the sister of Cesare's wife. (Joseph Mapelli and Sylvia Chioffa.) I remember well the connection to the Mapellis when I was a child, but we seldom, if ever visited them. I recall that they owned a very plush home in North Denver, and it always seemed that they were a lot wealthier than we were. I always had the feeling my parents were somewhat jealous of them, because they had so much more than we had, and there might have been something else too--something I couldn't put my finger on. I remember that she was born in St. Anthony's Hospital in 1955, and my daughter was born there in 1954. So she is a baby-boomer. She has two young elementary school aged children and lives in Arizona now, and is married to someone who doesn't have an Italian name."

All but my dad fought in WWI; he was in the Army later in Lybia. All of them came to America after 1919, exactly when I don't know, with Antonio coming first to Boston, and then Lawrence and Alfonso (not together, I think) to Pittsgburgh, and my dad came in 1923. As to my second cousin, she is Isa Veri, the daughter of my first cousin Maria Timperio. Maria's dad, Antonio Timperio, married Antoniella Pantalone, my aunt and mom's sister. Antonio Timperio was Postmaster of Sant'Eufemia for many years, followed for some 30 years by his daughter Maria. In Pittsburgh I lived in Hazelwood, where I worked in the Jones & Laughlin rolling mill both before and after WWII (I was in the Air Force and always resented the fact that I was sent to the Pacific instead of Italy where I might've been a "Mayor" of some town with my knowledge of Italian. But I was fortunate in that I was a bombardier on B-24s and wouldn't have liked bombing my "birthland. I went to Pitt and Duquesne and left Pittsburgh in 1960, but visited regularly until my folks died. Have lived and worked in New England until I retired in 1987. Now living in New Hampshire. Have one son (named Mark!) who's in NJ, three daughters in Denver, NH, and Mass., and nine grandkids Didn't mean to go on and on, but if you can relate to anything I touched on, would be happy to hear from you."
email from Tony diNardo, Mar 2005: "I am Tony DiNardo, and was born in Sant'Eufemia a Maiella in 1924. I came to Pittsburgh, Pa, with my mom, when I was 5. I had relatives with the names Pantalone, DiGiovine and Timperio. I have cousins in Argentina and Australia. AND, health willing, my wife and I and some of our kids will visit our village this spring. (We stopped there briefly in 1970.) When I saw the picture you showed of the 1942 soldier--IT LOOKED JUST LIKE I DID IN WWII IN MY UNIFORM. The resemblance of me at 19 and Anthony DiVecchio (if I have the correct name) was uncanny. If you get this, I'd love to hear from you. I quickly read the history you posted of my village, and it is awesome. Let me know if you get this, and we'll pick it up from there. Hoping you and yours have a Buon Anno 2005! (my Italian is "there" but very rusty)."

Anthony DiNardo passed away peacefully on September 30, 2017 in Bedford, NH. "Tony" was born on January 20, 1924 in Sant'Eufemia a Maiella, Italy to Rocco and Maria DiNardo. He immigrated to America when he was five years old and settled initially in Pittsburgh, PA with his family. He became a U.S. citizen in 1929.
Tony loved America and proudly served in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII. He remained in the Air Force Reserves for many years retiring with the rank of Major. His accomplishments throughout his life were countless and inspiring.
After the war, Tony earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He subsequently earned a law degree from Duquesne University Law School. He chose to apply his education in business and relocated his family to Boston, MA where he was employed by the Stop & Shop Companies. After an accomplished business career of 27 years, he retired from his position as Senior Vice President.
Tony initiated his retirement years in York Harbor, ME and then settled in Bedford, NH for many years. He pursued his many interests and hobbies, most notably photography and writing. His cherished gallery of photographs reflect his extensive travel during and after his business career. He published his first novel, "Rogue Pawn" in 1998 followed by his memoirs, "Across the Tracks" in 2014 at the age of ninety.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elly, in 2010. He is survived by his daughters, Jan McCarron (Joe) of Bedford, NH, Donna Boyt of Rye, NH, and Nan MacKenzie of Duxbury, MA; and his son, Mark DiNardo (Diane) of Annapolis, MD. He also leaves his nine grandchildren, Kristin Boyt, Heather Romano, David McCarron, Michael McCarron, Kait MacKenzie, Steve MacKenzie, Tori MacKenzie, Lauren Dorris, and Rachele Layne. Tony was blessed with eight great-grandchildren as well, Mia, Bryce, Ellie, Jack, Ben, Max, Aaron, and Natalie.
The family would like to thank the numerous caregivers who were so kind and compassionate to Tony. We will miss Tony's ever present strength, wisdom, counsel, wit and enduring positive attitude. He was loved by all and leaves a lasting influence on the so many lives he touched.
Funeral services will be private. Please consider a donation to a charitable veteran's organization in his honor. Tony will be laid to rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum in Manchester, NH together with his loving wife Elly. The Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Manchester, NH is in charge of the arrangements

From Anthony diNardo, Jan 2005 : "Another item I noticed is that my Uncle Peter Pantalone also had a son, Fiore, is not noted in the record. Fiore was (I'm guessing) born about 1925--28 or so. I was a couple of years older and remember that he volunteed in WWII as a Marine in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he suffered a heart problem and was one of the first patients in the region to receive open heart surgery and bypasses (my memory is clear on this because I was living in Massachusetts then and attended an affair where his parents were afraid that Fiore might harm himself because he insisted on dancing during his recovery period."

From Benilda Frazzini, my mother:
"We took a carriage (la carrozza) to the train station in some nearby town but I don't remember which town. We took the train to Napoli and then a boat to New York.
I was sick on the boat for the whole trip (mal di mare). We were in third class. My zio Pasquale Carlini was in second class and he took me up there to see if I would feel better.
(Pasquale, his wife, Filomena and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Pasquale was a stonemason, He died of cancer. He had one son Elio and one daughter. The daughter died young.)."
My mother called him zio. It is typical in Italy to call your parent's 1st cousins, as your uncle or your aunt. The ship manifest shows arrival 3 May 1926 on the Conte Biancamano via New York. He was listed as a US Citizen as of 1 Jul 1920 issued in Youngstown, OH. He was 33y.

I am 75 yrs. old and very new to the computer and internet world. I accidently stumbled upon your web site. I was so suprised to see the part about my Uncle's family. I also went on your other web site. I knew your Mother (we called her Benny) and your Uncle Pauly. Your Grandmother was the sweetest person--she was sooo short. I enjoyed that site also. It was sort of a trip down memory lane. Your Mother was so pretty. Pauly was nice looking too. Some facts about my Uncle's family-Your Grandmother only delivered Daya (Delia) Mary Torrence lives in East Palestine, Ohio. Besides Albert, she has a daughter Paulette. Daya's married name is Castrucci. She lives in Patterson Twp. She has 2 daughters-Becky in Idaho and Caroline here with her son Joshua and her grandson Cameron. Josey (Joe) lives in Chippewa Twp. and has been in ill health for the last yr. He has 2 daughters and one son. I live about 15 minutes from them both. My dad had 4 daughters. Alfonso would be our 2nd cousin as his mother Laura is our cousin and Venusta and Eliseo were our Aunt & Uncle. Hope this is of interest or use to you."
Info from Glorine diMuzio, Oct 2008: "Hi Mark. As usual, I need help. I came across one of your sites (by Accident as usual). It was DeVecchio/Frazzini Family Group Pages 85. Under it was my Mother's and my Grandfather's names, but when I clicked on it , names came up that I didn't recognize. Help. I had the occasion to go to llth St. and 2nd Ave. in Beaver Falls the other day. I didn't recognize it Most of the homes and buildings that I knew about were no longer there. Your Grandmother's house was gone, John Romano's barbershop was gone. It was so eerie. My Uncle's house was still there, but the house between him and the SOI was gone. The SOI was still there and so was the Polish Falcons. What was once a lively neighborhood was strangely silent. I always had such a nice time there when we visited. All the neighbors were like family. Too Bad. Every so often I get into the Family tree hunting and then I give it up for a while. I'm now hunting my relatives again. Hope all is well with you. Glorine"
