"My Aunt Helen gave me a photo of Maria Rosa DiNardo that hung in my grandfather's, Alphonso DiNardo's house which he brought with him when he traveled to America right after world war one. We had Giovanni DiNardo listed as Alhponso's father as well. It has to be the same lady because her birthdate was 1862 from Saint' Euphemio a Maiela."

I wrote to Dave:
"I have convinced myself that the listing for "mother" on the death certificate of Emanuele diNardo as Maria Rosa DiVecchia is wrong.

I viewed the birth records for Maria Rosa's children, Antonio, Lorenzo and Alfonso as well as the death record of husband, Giovanni.

They all clearly list Maria Rosa diNardo as the mother and since they are Italian records, it is certain that this is her maiden name.

It is possible that the Roberto diNardo that signed the death certificate may not have really known Emanuele's mother's name.

I believe that the Roberto who signed the DC was Angelo Roberto diNardo. He lived in Aliquippa. Roberto and Emanuele would have been 2nd cousins. The Ellis Island records show that none of Emanuele's brothers were in the US yet so it fell to 2nd cousin Roberto to sign the death certificate.

I still agree with you that because of the name Emanuele, this man belongs in your family as another brother of Antonio, Lorenzo, Alfonso, and Rocco. He would have been named after
his grandfather. He was the oldest son. It all fits. (Then, your father, Manual, was named after him.)

We still gotta find the marriage record for Giovanni diNardo and Maria Rosa to clear this up for sure."

I think that was her original name. She was born in San Francisco around 1908. They moved to Pittsburgh PA and had a son John, who was my grandfather. My grandmother was Eufemia DiAngelis DiGiovine. Her husband was Pietro DiGiovine.

I know my grandmother had relatives in Toronto that we stayed with or near, and I am wondering if our grandmothers were sisters. My grandmother did live to be 95 years old. She passed away while I was living out here in California.

I have 2 daughters (one 23 and the other 20). The oldest studied for a semester in Siena a few years ago, and my youngest is currently living and studying in Florence. My husband and I will go to Italy this summer and we want to visit Sant'Eufemia during our travels. Any information concerning travel in that area would be very welcome."
