Steven Iasella was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 20th 1992. He was the second of three boys; Carlo was his older brother and Michael was his younger brother. He Attended school at a local public school, Shaler Area. Although he was very shy and soft-spoken in middle school, he became quite popular during his high school and junior high years. He also became involved in many extracurriculars at this time including marching band, stage crew, science club, robotics club, hockey intermural, and pit band.

Despite this staggering number of extracurriculars he stayed in the top one percent of his class, excelling in all areas but preferring math, science, and music to all other subjects. As the years passed, Steven did many science related activities outside of school. He joined the Gene team, a summer internship at the University of Pittsburgh and took on two apprenticeships in biotechnology and engineering.

He realised that he would not be able to stand living the rest of his life without working in a science or math based field. He began to look into finding the perfect career. Actuaries used a lot of math, but did not use very much science. Chemists, biologists, and pharmacists used a lot of science but did not use much math. After much searching, Steven found his dream career. As an Engineer he would utilize both science and math to make the work a better place. The pay was not bad either.

He knew that he would need to work very hard to become an engineer so he took the hardest classes he could in order to become as smart as possible. After he graduated he chose to go to the University of Pittsburgh for his secondary education. He is currently a freshman engineering student, and as such, is making a web page for his engineering analysis class.

Roma Lucille Iasella Ganz BS’37, an elementary school teacher of more than three decades, died April 18, 2007. She was 93.

Roma Iasella was born March 27, 1914 in Copperton, Utah, to Guiselle Nicolo and Lucia Disano Iasella. After graduating from Bingham High School, she received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Utah, and later a master’s degree in Education from BYU. She also completed work on a doctorate.

Roma’s lifelong quest for knowledge was reflected in her well-worn thesaurus, dictionary, and encyclopedia set. Ganz taught elementary school in the Jordan School District for more than 30 years, instilling in her students this same love of learning.

On July 29, 1938, Roma married Floyd Ganz, and they remained together for sixty-seven years. Creative and caring, Roma was famous among friends and family for her mouth-watering Italian gnocchi, spaghetti, and meatballs, homemade bread and scones, and her delicious Greek cookies, toffee, peanut brittle, and fudge, which she shared readily. She also crocheted beautiful bookmarks and afghans. An avid sports fan, especially of the Utah Jazz, she also loved flowers, music, travel, and crossword puzzles.

Roma I. Ganz is survived by her two brothers, Henry and Joe Iasella; her son, William (LaRae) Ganz; daughter-in-law Brenda (Joe) Biesinger; “adopted son” Gary (Jean) Robbins and family; six grandchildren, Julie, Brad, Bryan, Matt Ganz, Brittany (Scott) Anderson, Aaron (Niki) Ganz; and two great-grandchildren, McKay and Taylor Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; a son, Michael; and a daughter-in-law, Betty.

Interment is at the Sandy City Cemetery. Ganz requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bingham High School Alumni Foundation (www.binghamalumni.org).

Henry M. Iasella "Together Again" Henry Michael Iasella, 93, our loving father and grandfather, passed away at his home January 26, 2009. He was born September 16, 1915 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Guiselle Nicolo Iasella Sr. and Lucia Disano. He married Anne Georgelas in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 30, 1937. Anne passed away Dec. 3, 2005. Henry was a man who enjoyed life; was an avid checker player, enjoyed gardening and reading on many subjects. He enjoyed "messing" with his cars in his garage and will be fondly remembered as a nurturing PaPou to his grandchildren. Survivors: daughter, Barbara (Wayne) Strickland, Rocky Mount, North Carolina; son, Mike (Linda) Iasella, Yakima, Washington; five grandchildren and 10 great-grand-children, with one more on the way; brother, Joe Iasella. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; parents; and a sister, Roma Ganz. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, January 30, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Midvale City Cemetery 450 West 7500 South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the St. Therese Catholic Church Building Fund.
