Concetta Carlini (I4570) [Female] d. BEF 1929
**Microfilmed baptism record of son Cristino Onorino from St. Joseph Church in Springer, NM. There is some question that this is correct. The record is very hard to read - the father's name appears to be "Emmigoio Detelli". Concetta's name is very clear. The god parents are "Geronimo Frazzini" and "Esterina Quaranto" - who I believe to be Giacomo "James" Frazzini and Esterina Quaranta "Forty". All these people are from SPA.

There is a Concetta Maria Carlini born 5 Aug 1894 in SPA, f: Vincenzo, m: Gelsumina Morelli. Might be her but I am not sure They were married in 1878. May be the same person as 5814.

I could not find her arrival manifest between 1910 and 1914

Wanda Doretti (I4577) [Female] b. 30 Aug 1919 - d. 12 Aug 2013 Chicago, Cook, IL
email from Rayna Valentine, Jan 2007.

posting in SPA group by Arthur Colaianni, Aug 2013: "Last week the Lord took my mother to Himself. I was in PA with my sister to be with her. We took her home to Chicago to be buried next to my father (Arthur Colaianni Jr.). Her name is Wanda Doretti Colaianni (Doretti being her maiden name which has is origin in Tuscany). Colaianni of course is my father's name and a SPA ancestral family name. The funeral took place at St. Giles Church in Oak Park, IL which has a long family connection in my youth and early married life as it's where my Grandfather and father had their funerals, where my sister and later myself were married and two of my children were baptized there. She passed away on Aug. 12 and would have been 94 on Aug. 30th. Several cousins with SPA connections attended the funeral. These included: Fred Frazzini and family, Larry Frazzini and family, Chuch Frazzini and family whose father (Fred) was from SPA and Marcella and Paula Settefrati both who immigrated from SPA in the 1950's with their parents. Vincenza Colaianni was the sister of my grandfather Arthur Colaianni would have been their grandmother. Vincenza never came to America but her two daughters did. Joseph Settefrati of SPA married one of the sisters in Italy before they came to the USA.

Since I have a cousin (William Colianni) as part of this group, I thought that you would like to know about our loss. May our Mom's soul and the souls of all your departed family members rest in peace. Arthur Colaianni"

email from Tom Fondy, Jan 2011: "Romolo Francis Acquafondata (later changed to Fondy) was born Sept. 8, 1908 in Italy. to Emiddio Acquafondata and Severina Iannachione. The "1909" date is a few months off. He died in January 1983. I can look up the exact date on the memorial cards or my sister (Bernadette Fondy) may know the date. Benadetta Colucci was born March 26, 1914 in Pittsburgh. She died January 6, 2008. She had resumed the name Bernadette after about 1946. Romolo and as she was then called "Bertha" had three children: Albert Ralph Fondy; Dec. 5, 1935 to 2005. I will have to look up the exact date
unless Bernadette can send it to you. Albert was the famous Fondy, and maybe one of the most famous Acquafondatas since he was the long-term President of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, and also of the Pennsylvania Federation of Teachers. Thomas Paul Fondy (me): Born 1937. My maternal grandfather Bartolomeo Colucci was worried that if I was a girl I would be a vampire! Some sort of weird legend from the "Old Country"). I ain't dead yet! I am a Full Professor on the Biology Faculty at Syracuse University half-way through my 46th year! Bernadette Rosella Fondy was born 1946. She was Dean at Seton Hill College in Greensburg and a Prof there, and I am delighted to say is also very much alive and healthy. Albert has one daugher: Jessica Fondy. I have three children: Christopher Fondy born 1964. Christopher resumed the family name about 8 years ago, so he uses both Fondy and Acquafonata. Chris works with me in my lab at Syracuse University; Lynn Acquafondata, 1966 (she resumed the family name after her divorce from Mark Brodie). Lynn is a Unitarian minister. Susan Fondy (1967) is an MD and Lt. Colonel in the US Army."

email fromTom Fondy (Acquafondata), Jul 2012: "By the way: I just re-read the history of my mother's family as written by her eldest sister, Rosella. My grandfather Bartolomeo Colucci was the eldest son of Rosa Acierno and Giovanni Colucci from Sirignano Avellino.

My aunt records that Bartolomeo was the eldest of 14 MALE children and that only four of them survived to adulthood! Rosella was one hellavu smart lady so if she wrote 14 Male children, that's what she meant.

Is that possible? Surely there had to be some girls in that family of 14 boys. Did they not list the girls? Do you see death rates like that in your genealogies? Do they simply not list some of the children if they died early?

No wonder my grandfather lived to be 100 and didn't really get sick even at the end. He just decided to die when my Mother, with whom he was living, got sick briefly and had to put him in a nursing home temporarily. He didn't understand that it was temporary. He just died within a week of that temporary move to the nursing home.

Four out of 14 survived to adulthood! That's some stringent selection. If generations of Italians saw that kind of attrition, no wonder the survivors were so hearty."

Charles DeSanzo (I4619) [Male] b. 22 Apr 1917 Homewood Junction, Beaver, PA - d. 7 Jun 1993 Beaver Falls, Beaver, PA
Event - Military Service : WWII
Occupation: Babcock & Wilcox Co.
1920 census, Homewood, Beaver, PA, 2y 8m.
1930 census, Homewood, PA, 12y, Living with uncle, Frank Trill.
1984 obituary in the Beaver, Valley Times of sister, Dorothy.
1988 obituary in the Beaver County Times of mother, Anna. (Mark's note: Charles was raised by Frank and Anna Trill after his mother died.)
email from daughter, Sally DeSanzo Burge, Sep 2010: "My mother and father got married by a Justice of the Peace. When they tried to get married in the Catholic church, the search began for my Dad's birth certificate, which was never found. Something was found that had his name as Carlos Marcellus DeSanzo. My dad was born 4/22/1917.

He apparently went to live with his paternal grandparents after his mother died while his younger sister, Dorothy, by the same mother went to live with the maternal grandparents. All of this is very sketchy to me because my dad did not talk about his parents.

At any rate, from what I gather from things that my mother said, my dad must have been what we now term a hyperactive child and so was sent from relative to relative, but lived mostly with Frank and Annie Trill, who did not want him shifted around and demanded that he stay with them and their 7 children. So my dad referred to her as Mum and we called her Aunt Annie.

My Dad went to the 2-room school house in Homewood to the 8th grade and they went to work in the Stone Quarry in Koppel at age 14. He joined the army and served in WWII in Germany, France and Belgium. The Trill boys also were in the Armed Services. My dad then went to work at the B&W and worked there for 41 years."

2003 email from Craig diLorenzo: "My grandfather, Alexander DiLorenzo, came to the US sometime between 1910 - 1920 when he was a teenager, putting him in the same age category as Carmine diLorenzo and your grandfather. He came from Campobasso to New York he ended up in Denver where most of my aunts, uncles and cousins are now. I know Alexander came over with some relatives but had little contact when they came to the USA. Seems like there may be some sort of connection! Alexander died about 15 years ago and his wife Frances (Mauro) died about 8 years ago."
