Posting on the SPA group from Gene Cinea, Apr 2013: "Another part of this story is that Urbino had to give up the four girls to an orphanage. Sometime later, Urbino’s deceased wife, Angiola “Angela” came to him in a dream and told him to go get the girls and bring them home. He did this, but Mary had already been adopted by the Santucci’s. So, Urbino brought the remaining three girls home and raised them with the help of the eldest girl, Giovanna.

With the passing of Mary, all four girls have now passed. Rest in peace, Cousins."

I usually try to bounce these questions off of her sister, Sara, but I have not had a chance to call her yet."

My mother (Annina "Anita" Capone) remembers that when the Number One mine exploded on February 8, 1923, she and the other children in her class thought they were hearing dynamite. Her father, Urbino, was one of the lucky few miners who went into Number One that morning but, due to injuries, left before the explosion. Had he died that day, Anita and her three sisters would have been orphans, as their mother had died tragically around 1916 when a coal car struck her. She was holding the youngest girl, a baby, but managed to throw her to safety."

In Apr of 2013, I learned more about her daughter, Maria, who did not previously know about. This was third sister that Marco described in his email above.

What an absolute labor of love!! Your devotion of countless hours spent on the project is beyond evident and (I'm sure) will be enjoyed and treasured by even more people than you realize. Let me say it again: "WOW!"
The reason I am writing to you is because I noticed that my grandmother's name (Mary Caponi Santucci Ludi) was not included along with her sisters. She was the last child born to Urbino and Angelina Caponi.
When Mary was an infant, her mother Angelina was traveling with her across a railroad trestle. Angelina was struck and killed when an unexpected train arrived. Mary was saved only because she was thrown onto the adjoining cliffs where she was later found and rescued.
After the tragedy, Mary's father decided his youngest daughter might have a better life if she were raised by another family. She was ultimately adopted by Domenic and Maria Santucci along with their daughter Ange. Both families lived in the booming coal mining town of Dawson, New Mexico. While she was growing up, Mary knew and interacted with her biological father and sisters, but was not made aware of the connection and circumstances until she was a little older.
Sorry for the rambling... my whole point of this note was simply to ask if it might be possible to add my grandmother's name to your tree. I am attaching a copy of her obituary. If there are any other details you would like or need, I will do my best.

She was born in Dawson in 1916 to Domenico and Maria Palumbo. Her parents both came from San Pietro Avellano and were married there in New Mexico. There were eight children in the family, three boys and five girls. There are now only three of the girls left , my wife, Laura , and two of her sisters, Emily and Sara. We have been to San Pietro Avellano several times; our first time was in 1969 when Laura was able to locate many of her relatives. Although Laura does not speak Italian, she is able to understand it fairly well. We have Italian friends in Rome who usually accompanied us to San Pietro and served as interepters. Our daughter in Boise, ID , found your web site when she was researching her relatives and passed the reference site number to me."
